In my third mono printing class, I used a different stencil, completely unrelated to the topic of place and for the purpose of experimenting. This was what the stencil looked like, but after it was used:

I wanted to use the same colours used before - green and grey - but added a contrasting colour to it, so I added purple in the middle. I intended the three colours to match the vertical level of each object on the stencil - the hand, the mug and the desk. The goal here was to see how a random and incongruous colour scheme would make the print look. On newsprint paper, it looked like this:

I printed on 290gsm Fabriano Tiepolo paper, however, I made a critical mistake of printing a green rectangular shade on top of a perfectly fine print… I don’t think I knew what I was doing at that time.

I liked how it was printed clearly and its colour was evenly vivid, with no faint area. I also found it interesting that mono printing has the inevitable involvement of colour gradation when using multiple colours in one print.

I have also made two other prints using the seagull and (paper-cut) leaves stencils. The process of those was to first ink the roller with green and grey.

Then transfer the ink onto the board, using the inked roller so the ink can be evenly applied onto the print.

Place the inked board on the printing press and on top of that, place the stencil, then the paper that was soaked in clean water for at least 15 minutes. After putting it through the printing press, this was the result:

Next, I wanted to use the leaf stencils so I placed them on top of the inked board.

However, I didn’t expect the second layer of colour to cover the negative spaces so densely like this:

On the second print, I utilised the stencils that still had wet inks on to make this:

I liked how the outcome looked, except for the fact that the stencil was too small to cover the outer edge of the inks on the board, creating a random frame on the print. Furthermore, the background seemed to be too empty and bland.
